Rivolier Lady Leg IronsFrom Prometheus's collection
Rivolier Lady shackles. Leg irons manufactured by the Rivolier company of France, probably in the early 20th century. This model is steel, whereas the modern versions are aluminum alloy. The lock is the usual Rivolier recessed bolt with a circular key. The central ring is probably for a chain linking to other prisoners. This steel version has a strikingly elegant and delicate quality, very different to the convict version, suggesting it may be intended for women prisoners. |
