Bean Collar+Handcuffs Combination
A 19th century Bean catalog shows this restraint, which is rare. Bean's catalog contains the text: "In response to numerous inquiries for a convenient substitute for the old style strait jacket, we now offer the novel combination of neck-band combined with handcuffs. This combination will be found eminently adapted for thoroughly securing malefactors on land or on shipboard, but particularly for the use of institutions for the insane and idiotic, where the use of the hands is necessarily restricted in examples of violent lunacy, or victims of self-pollution". |
